Jim Anderson was an outspoken, and at times controversial, supporter of preserving Stratford and Perth County’s heritage and culture. This new exhibit explores his roots as an artist, his dedication towards local history as an archivist and his passion for preservation as a heritage advocate. Infamous for his hunger strike atop the Perth County Courthouse, in protest of a pending dissolution of the historical board, Anderson was instrumental in the founding of Heritage Stratford— established specifically to preserve Stratford’s significant architecture, such as City Hall and the Gordon Block.

Gallery Stratford Emily Schaefer Exhibition- Poetic Alchemy

February 23, 2018 until May 4, 2018
217 Wellington Street

My work focuses on the physical application of medium to surface, and the thought process behind it. I investigate how the formal components of a painting interact with one another, by analyzing and questioning the process with every decision made. In my paintings, colour is capable of changing everything. Poured instances of colour occasionally combine, creating a new colour on their own. Other times, they sit beside each other maintaining complete individuality. I explore the relationship colours form when made to exist with one another, by pushing them past their comfort zone. - Emily Schaefer.

Opening Reception Friday, February 23, 2018 from 7 - 9 PM
